I use this metadata term set in an “Education” profile field to let staff select their school to add to their profile. The term set restricts their entries so that synonyms, abbreviations, and misspellings are less prevalent. These values are then used as filters in “people search” results.
This CSV is a set of terms pulled from entries made in our applicant tracking system, manually sorted, duplicates removed, and checked over for errors (meaning I probably missed some… also thank you Joi for doing some of the checking with me), but it’s a good starting point if you don’t want to make a list from scratch. It has about 1500 colleges and universities in it.
DISCLAIMER: This is being provided with no support, no guarantees of accuracy, no nothing. I am making it available hoping it’ll save someone else hours of tedious manual labor.
The term set linked at the bottom of this post can be imported in the term store by clicking the menu in the corner of one of your folder groupings in the Term Store. I like to put people-related term sets in the People folder.
Click “Import Term Set” and select the CSV file you want to import. The imported term set will be called “Education-Schools”:
